Ryan Gordon - BSc, ALS, BCLS, CLS, P.Eng
Owner, Professional Land Surveyor
Ryan began his career as a land surveyor in 2004 after graduating from the University of Calgary with a degree in Geomatics Engineering. He ventured to the north, and worked in Slave Lake for 3 years in the field and in the office checking plans, processing field data, and managing field equipment for FOCUS. In 2007, he moved to Peace River to take a position with Midwest Surveys as a project manager. A motivated and hard worker, Ryan obtained his Alberta Land Surveyors commission in 2008, followed by his British Columbia Land Surveyors commission in 2009, and Canada Land Surveyors Commission in 2010. Ryan also received the designation of Professional Engineer in 2010. In 2010, Ryan moved to Grande Prairie to take a position with OPUS Stewart Weir as a project director. He transitioned back into field work in 2011 and also began building a survey equipment rental company to support his field work activities. In 2016, Ryan began practicing as a sole proprietor under the name IterStar Geomatics. Also in 2016, Ryan moved his family further north to pursue an opportunity with Sub-Arctic Surveys, and worked as a Canada Land Surveyor in their office until early 2018 on various land development projects throughout the north. In 2018, Ryan relaunched IterStar Geomatics Ltd. as a Land Surveying firm based in Yellowknife.
Ryan has a wide experience with many aspects of the land surveying profession, having worked in both the office, managing projects and crews, and in the field getting the work done. His project experience is similarly wide, incorporating legal surveys for a wide variety of clients on private and crown land, in both city environments and remote locations. Ryan has also received additional training in first aid, ATV and Snowmobile operation, fall protection, line locating, ground disturbance, pipeline construction safety, construction safety, off highway defensive driving, and chainsaw operation (Level II Faller). Ryan and his family reside in Yellowknife, NT, but still maintain a connection, and a few projects, in Northern Alberta. He looks forward to serving the north with his skills as a land surveyor!
Leslie Gordon - BSc, MAS
Leslie is Ryan’s wife and co-owner of IterStar Geomatics. She has degrees in Chemistry and Archival Studies and moved to Grande Prairie in 2009 to pursue a career at South Peace Regional Archives. Her work at the archives enabled her to become familiar with some of the products of land surveying and since meeting Ryan, her interest and knowledge base has increased immensely. Leslie became an investor in Ryan’s survey equipment rental company in 2013 and although not directly involved in the surveying part of the business, provides plenty of advice and support to move the company forward. Since moving to Yellowknife Leslie is now employed with the Government of the Northwest Territories as a Senior Archivist.
